Hollyoaks commitment to the homeless charity Centrepoint continues apace with James Atherton and Tom Scurr, who play Will Savage and Barney Harper-McBride in the show, being set to run in the Virgin London Marathon on April 22nd.
The two recently completed the Liverpool Half Marathon as a training run for the main event and raised money for the charity in that race too. Centrepoint is a charitable organisation devoted to helping homeless youngsters in London and the North East and has been supported by Hollyoaks for some time. Recently, cast and crew members took part in a charity sleep-out to raise money and were joined by youngsters who have been helped by Centrepoint. The cause is one that is close to the hearts of Hollyoaks cast members as it mirrors the plight of George and Phoebe, the village’s youngsters who found themselves on the streets in the most harrowing of circumstances.
The two youngsters have trained hard for the runs and are ready for all that London – one of the world’s premier marathons – can throw at them, and they will be ready for their fund-raising epic later this month.
Hollyoaks continues to tackle subjects that need to be give air time and charities such as Centrepoint are at the very heart of the shows ethic. It is testament to the producers that they continue to treat such subjects as important to the ongoing life of Hollyoaks.
